Qualcomm's marketing mix for its Snapdragon processor

Qualcomm is an American based multinational corporation which was  incorporated in Delaware and is headquartered at San Diego, California.



Qualcomm manufactures its Snapdragon processor for mobile industry. Snapdragon chips are not just specifically made for expensive flagship smartphones. It has a bigger portfolio of processors built for various mobiles at different prices. There is a fair difference between the processors according to the need and budget of the consumer. Qualcomm is not the only company manufacturing flagship processors. It competes with Samsung Exynos, Huawei’s Kirin, and Intel. But Snapdragon has been leading the Mobile processor industry with its variety of products at the different price ranges.

The company earns a major portion of its revenues from manufacturing chips. The company is mainly into Research and development. It was established in the year 1985 and was the first company to step into CDMA technology. Qualcomm is one of the leading companies in the field of mobile application processor. The company has grown in leaps and bounds. They have merged and acquired a lot of companies which has made them one of the best in the world.

Marketing Mix can be defined as the set of tactics, or action, that a business uses to advance or develop its product or brand in the target market.

 The 8Ps of the marketing mix - Price, Product, Promotion, Place, Positioning, Packaging, Politics, and even People.

Qualcomm’s marketing mix

 

1)Price


A product’s price should reflect the attributes of a company’s target market perfectly. The pricing strategy usually is dependent upon the market share and the completion in the market.

Price of Qualcomm’s processor is comparatively lower than of Huawei’s Kirin and Samsung’s Exynos. 


Qualcomm’s processor cost constitutes 15% of the retail price of a mobile. The pricing of Qualcomm’s chipset is not high.
The low-end chipset of Qualcomm is priced around Rs.700- Rs.2000 and on the other hand, the high-end chipset costs around Rs.6000

Qualcomm’s price usually depends on the number of phones being manufactured by a company and the price segment which they are targeting. For example, Samsung’s Galaxy S20 Ultra costs Rs. 1 Lakh

The manufacturing cost sums upto  Rs.35000 and out of this the Application Processor costs Rs.5600. At a low price, Qualcomm is able to provide high performance and a variety of processors according to the industry need.

The Qualcomm 2 series is designed for Original Equipment Manufacturers that serves and caters to the demand of those consumers who  otherwise may not be able to have access to quality, affordable, reliable mobile devices.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 is designed to support the most popular mobile devices and IoT ( Internet of things) features, including Internet connections, cutting-edge camera technologies, better battery usage, Full HD displays, and high-fidelity audio.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 series mobile platforms are designed for performance, efficiency and versatility by providing apex mobile user experiences in a variety of form factors, From smartphones and tablets to embedded designs and connected cars.

 D)Qualcomm 7 series

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 series mobile platforms support premium features, such as the Qualcomm® Artificial Intelligence Engine (AIE) and advanced camera feature, better performance in terms of gaming, and very efficient in battery saving.

 5) Qualcomm 8 series

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 series provides platforms with multi-core CPUs which can expand the possibilities of connected computing and provides the ultimate performance, power efficiency, and 4G and 5G connectivity.



3)    Place
Qualcomm started out small but the way it has grown and marched ahead is quite exceptional. Qualcomm’s presence is not only limited within the national borders, it has made its presence felt in the global market. The company is a leading producer in the field of semiconductors and mobile processors and is constantly working towards maximizing its market share by making its products reach every country through various mergers and acquisitions. Qualcomm’s offices are present in Brazil, China, India, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, United Kingdom, and the United States.

4)Promotion

the promotional and advertising strategy by Qualcomm is as follows:
A) Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit
Qualcomm holds its tech summit annually. Every year, OEM keep a keen look on the technologies Qualcomm has been innovating and how it can be utilized on its device.

B) Uplinq
Uplinq was a developer conference hosted by Qualcomm. Its purpose is to bring publishers, developers, mobile manufacturers, tech providers, and network operators in the mobile application and data services sector together and educate them about business-building tactics.

C) Qualcomm Technical Talks
Qualcomm Technical Talks is an intimate event that was held in the summer of 2019. The discussion as on three different technical talks on the topics of WiFi6, 60 GHz Wi-Fi, and cellular vehicle-to-everything.

D) Consumer Electronics Show
CES is an important event for tech companies to showcase cutting-edge technology. And Qualcomm regularly rents a booth at the CES annually
